Description
Alcides made voyages to San Francisco for its owners until sold in 1900 to Anglo American Oil Co., and began hauling case oil to the Pacific. Alcides encountered a typhoon in the Sunda Straits in which Alcides lost its tophamper. O. N. Henriksen or Norway purchased Alcides at the end of 1912. Sold again 1916 to another Norwegian shipping house. In July of 1917, Alcides was torpedoed by U-54 near Ireland, the entire crew going down with the ship.
The photograph shows Alcides in port. The ship had royals over double topgallants and a bridge deck.
