Item Essays in international trade and finance(2016-12) Teng, Lufei; Rahnama, Masha; Lin, Zhangxi; McComb, Robert; Von Ende, TerryWe live in a world that is closely connected by international trade and finance, yet at the same time exhibits extraordinary income inequalities both within and across countries. Inspired by concerns about poverty and economic disparity, the first essay of this dissertation is intended to analyze the relationship among FDI, foreign aid, and concessional debts by using African countries’ sample. It implies that foreign aid and concessional debts tend to attract foreign private investment into IDA African countries, however, this relationship is not significant for IBRD African countries. The second essay aims to examine how FDI inflows affect income inequality in OECD countries. The conclusions suggest that FDI inflows to OECD countries are high-skill intensive and tend to increase income inequality.
